Most medium and large employers — and many smaller ones too — use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to handle job applications. Before a recruiter ever reads your resume, this software scans it, compares it with the job ad, and ranks how well the two match.
That match matters more than most people realise. If your resume does not use the words the employer used — the skills, tools and job title from the ad itself — your application can be filtered out early, even if you could do the job well. The free checker below shows you exactly where you stand, so you can fix the gaps before you apply.
It is private by design. The checker runs entirely in your browser: your resume is never uploaded to a server, never stored, and never shared. When you close this tab, everything you pasted is gone.

How to improve your score
- Use the job ad’s own words. Where a skill or tool honestly applies to you, name it exactly as the employer does — “Microsoft Excel”, not just “spreadsheets”.
- Add a clear Skills section. List your tools, software and methods as plain keywords that scanning software can find easily.
- Stick to standard headings. “Experience”, “Education” and “Skills” are read reliably; clever headings like “My journey so far” often are not.
- Keep the formatting simple. One column, and no tables, text boxes or images for important information — many systems read them badly, or not at all.
- Stay honest. Only add keywords that reflect real experience. Recruiters can spot keyword stuffing, and an interview will quickly expose anything you cannot back up.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good match score?
Aim for 75% or higher before you apply. Between 50% and 74% usually means a few honest additions will lift you. Below 50%, your resume is probably aimed at a different kind of role — retarget it around this job ad.
Does a high score guarantee an interview?
No — and be wary of any tool that promises one. A strong match gets your resume past the software filter and in front of a person. From there, your experience and the interview itself decide.
Can I check a PDF or Word resume?
Yes. Open the file, copy all of its text, and paste it here. The formatting does not affect the check — the tool reads the words, exactly as an ATS does.
